Quick verdict
St. Regis Cap Cana has the most impressive design of anywhere in the community, and service that feels flawless when it works — but an inconsistent butler program and a small beach explain why its rating trails other luxury brands. It's still one of the best picks for travelers who care more about design, golf and quiet than an all-inclusive wristband.

The first thing you notice isn't the resort — it's the silence

Cap Cana has a guardhouse and controlled access, so the drive from Punta Cana International Airport takes just fifteen minutes and ends by crossing a gate that shuts out all the noise of the tourist strip. Inside, the road runs along the Punta Espada golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, and then the building appears: coral stone, driftwood, and a neutral palette that seems built not to compete with the ocean. Toronto-based studio Chapi Chapo Design decided the landscape should be the real star here, and it works.

The Two Myths About This Resort — And the Truth Behind Them

St. Regis Cap Cana – kids' club and family area
The kids' club is part of the resort's family-friendly offering

There's a lot of wrong information about this resort floating around online: some sites describe it as adults-only with just two pools. Neither is true. St. Regis Cap Cana has a kids' pool, a play area, and kids' and teens' clubs, and there are four pools total, including a rooftop pool with a tiki-style bar and an open view of the coastline. It's not an all-inclusive resort either — every order gets charged separately here, which is worth knowing before you book.

💡 Insider tip: If you're traveling with family and want real luxury in Cap Cana, the options shrink fast — Eden Roc doesn't take kids, and Sanctuary is adults-only. St. Regis is, today, the only luxury property in the area that combines both.

Rooms and suites

Terrace of a suite with a private plunge pool
Oasis Suite

Oasis Suite

A private plunge pool on the terrace and direct access into the water without touching a hallway — the resort's most sought-after swim-out category.

Royal Suite

Royal Suite

A separate bedroom, Frette linens and ocean views — more space without going all the way up to the presidential tier.

St. Regis Suite

St. Regis Suite

The brand's flagship category: a separate living room, its own dining area and a terrace with an open Caribbean view.

Presidential Suite

Presidential Suite

Over 6,500 square feet with its own dining room — the largest suite on property.

💡 Practical tip: Every room has a private terrace or balcony, and the categories with a plunge pool on the terrace are the first to sell out during peak season.

Dining

There are nine venues between restaurants and bars, and each one feels closer to a chef-driven restaurant than typical beach-resort dining.

Nina

Nina

The flagship restaurant, developed with Peruvian chef Diego Muñoz. Book it for your first night, not your last.

Cassava

Cassava

Latin American-inspired cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Marola Mediterranean Grill

Marola Mediterranean Grill

Grilled seafood and meats right on the water, with barefoot-in-the-sand dining on Carey Bay.

Kawa Coffee Shop

Kawa Coffee Shop

Dominican coffee and cacao-based treats, grab-and-go — one of the resort's best ideas.

Cielo Mío

Cielo Mío

The rooftop bar, with Latin cuisine and open coastal views.

The Amber Bar

The Amber Bar

A rum-and-cigar lounge with its own walk-in humidor — the space that surprises guests the most.

Pools, beach and activities

St. Regis Cap Cana – pool complex
Aerial view of the resort's pool complex

St. Regis Cap Cana has four pools, including a rooftop pool with a tiki-style bar, and a private beach on Carey Bay. The beach is small, and a good part of it isn't usable because of the rocks, which can hurt your feet — bring water shoes, and don't count on it as your main activity here.

Included activities

St. Regis Cap Cana – kids' club
The kids' club, with a supervised program

Beyond the pools and beach, the resort has a kids' club with a supervised program, a teen club, and butler service that takes care of the little ones too — a combination neither Eden Roc nor Sanctuary, Cap Cana's other two luxury resorts, offer.

Spa

St. Regis Cap Cana – spa
A treatment room at the St. Regis Spa

The spa has fourteen treatment rooms using locally sourced ingredients, plus a 24-hour gym, a yoga studio, a steam room, a sauna and a jacuzzi. It's one of the most consistently praised parts of the resort in real guest reviews.

Nightlife

Paired with the sunset champagne sabering ceremony and afternoon tea — traditions the St. Regis brand repeats at every property worldwide — The Amber Bar builds an evening routine that doesn't look anything like a Punta Cana all-inclusive.

Pros and cons

✓ What works really well

  • Design and architecture among the most impressive in the Caribbean
  • The only luxury resort in Cap Cana that welcomes kids and has a kids' pool
  • A 14-treatment-room spa that's one of the most praised parts of the stay

✗ What to know before you go

  • The butler program is a coin toss — ask for the butler service's WhatsApp at check-in
  • The beach is small, and a good part of it isn't usable because of the rocks
  • Sargassum shows up in season — check the seaweed forecast before locking in dates

Who is this resort for?

✓ Great for

  • Travelers who value design, golf and quiet over an all-inclusive wristband
  • Families who want real luxury in Cap Cana without giving up traveling with kids

✗ Not for you if...

  • You need to lock in your food and drink budget before traveling
  • You're looking for miles of open beach as your main activity

Final verdict — 4.2 / 5

St. Regis Cap Cana opened in May 2025 as the brand's first resort in the Dominican Republic, and in design and architecture, it's probably the most impressive thing ever built in the country. But its 4.2 out of 5 rating on Google and 7.4 out of 10 on Booking.com — low numbers for Marriott's most expensive brand — tell a different story than the photos do. The pattern is clear: the property is spectacular, the service is inconsistent. The butlers who do deliver build serious loyalty (Jhordyn, Diana, Angelo, Lisette and Laurent come up again and again), but several guests say theirs never reached out for half their stay. The beach is small and rocky, sargassum shows up in season, and Cassava draws consistency complaints that Nina and Marola don't. It's not the perfect resort — but for the traveler who values design, golf next to Punta Espada, and quiet over the buzz of an all-inclusive, it's still one of the best options you'll find in the Dominican Republic today.
