Cap Cana has a guardhouse and controlled access, so the drive from Punta Cana International Airport takes just fifteen minutes and ends by crossing a gate that shuts out all the noise of the tourist strip. Inside, the road runs along the Punta Espada golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, and then the building appears: coral stone, driftwood, and a neutral palette that seems built not to compete with the ocean. Toronto-based studio Chapi Chapo Design decided the landscape should be the real star here, and it works.

The Two Myths About This Resort — And the Truth Behind Them
There's a lot of wrong information about this resort floating around online: some sites describe it as adults-only with just two pools. Neither is true. St. Regis Cap Cana has a kids' pool, a play area, and kids' and teens' clubs, and there are four pools total, including a rooftop pool with a tiki-style bar and an open view of the coastline. It's not an all-inclusive resort either — every order gets charged separately here, which is worth knowing before you book.

Pools, beach and activities
St. Regis Cap Cana has four pools, including a rooftop pool with a tiki-style bar, and a private beach on Carey Bay. The beach is small, and a good part of it isn't usable because of the rocks, which can hurt your feet — bring water shoes, and don't count on it as your main activity here.

Beyond the pools and beach, the resort has a kids' club with a supervised program, a teen club, and butler service that takes care of the little ones too — a combination neither Eden Roc nor Sanctuary, Cap Cana's other two luxury resorts, offer.

St. Regis Cap Cana opened in May 2025 as the brand's first resort in the Dominican Republic, and in design and architecture, it's probably the most impressive thing ever built in the country. But its 4.2 out of 5 rating on Google and 7.4 out of 10 on Booking.com — low numbers for Marriott's most expensive brand — tell a different story than the photos do. The pattern is clear: the property is spectacular, the service is inconsistent. The butlers who do deliver build serious loyalty (Jhordyn, Diana, Angelo, Lisette and Laurent come up again and again), but several guests say theirs never reached out for half their stay. The beach is small and rocky, sargassum shows up in season, and Cassava draws consistency complaints that Nina and Marola don't. It's not the perfect resort — but for the traveler who values design, golf next to Punta Espada, and quiet over the buzz of an all-inclusive, it's still one of the best options you'll find in the Dominican Republic today.
