Costa Mujeres, just north of Cancun, has become the stretch with the most new all-inclusive openings in Mexico over the past few years. We built this ranking with a different lens: beyond comparing grounds, beach and dining, we flagged which of these resorts are actually two connected sister properties, where one reservation gets you access to both. Here is how the Top 8 shook out.
This is the most literal 2-for-1 in Costa Mujeres: two resorts from the same group, connected by an artificial canal system with electric boats moving guests between properties. One reservation at either resort unlocks the full 20.5-hectare complex — 469 suites, the Zentropia Wellness & Spa with dry and wet saunas and an ice room, and the Chic Cabaret & Restaurant, one of the most talked-about shows in the area. TRS Coral is the adults-only side; Grand Palladium Select adds a family section.
TRS Coral's swim-out suites are the first room category to sell out in peak season — they get booked months ahead.
Check Availability →The next combo works differently — here, the extra access only goes one way.
Facing an extensive white-sand beach, Riu Dunamar runs a 24-hour all-inclusive program with a dining lineup that leans into Asian and Italian cuisine, plus its own steakhouse and 6 different bars. It has the RIU Land kids' program and the Splash Water World for the whole family. It is the sister property to Riu Palace Costa Mujeres, though the extra access only runs one direction, as you'll see next.
Oceanfront rooms are the first category to sell out — book weeks ahead to lock one in.
Check Availability →Before we continue the ranking, here's what Costa Mujeres offers beyond its resorts.
Isla Mujeres is a 20-30 minute ferry ride away, along with snorkeling on the local reefs and catamaran tours that leave right from Puerto Juárez. It's also a solid starting point for day trips to Chichén Itzá or the cenotes near Valladolid, though those take up the full day.
Isla Mujeres, reef snorkeling and catamaran tours — with hotel pickup and free cancellation.
Back to the ranking — #6 is the other side of the combo we just covered.
With 600 rooms, 5 pools and 6 restaurants, Riu Palace is the upscale version of the Riu resorts in the area, with a no-spring-breakers policy that keeps the atmosphere noticeably calmer. This is where the 2-for-1 actually works: booking the Palace includes access to the Splash Water World park and the Pacha nightclub next door at Riu Dunamar. Kids' club access and the gym are also included in the all-inclusive rate.
Swim-out suites and ocean-view rooms are the first categories to sell out.
Check Availability →#5 leaves the combo idea behind and bets everything on one thing: quiet.
Adults-only and AAA Five Diamond-rated, Secrets Playa Blanca runs on the Unlimited-Luxury concept: real all-inclusive, no visible wristband, à la carte restaurants with no reservations needed, and top-shelf drinks with no limit. Its oceanfront infinity pools and swim-out suites with a hot tub are the most-photographed spot at this resort. Along with Ocean Allure, it's one of the newest properties in Costa Mujeres.
Swim-out suites sell out first, especially for December-through-March dates.
Check Availability →If you're traveling with family, #4 is the one that will win you over.
Set inside a gated community with a world-famous golf course, Dreams Playa Mujeres features 65,000 square feet of pools across three levels, its own water park, and an interactive Dolphin Habitat. AAA Four Diamond-rated and built on the same wristband-free Unlimited-Luxury concept, it's one of the most complete all-inclusive options for traveling with kids in Costa Mujeres.
Suites with direct water park access are the first to sell out during school-break season.

#3 is the newest of the eight — and it's already getting people talking.
Newly built and adults-only, Ocean Allure features 599 rooms with modern architecture and ocean-inspired décor. Its 2 rooftop infinity pools overlooking the sea, wave pool and lazy river set it apart, alongside 8 restaurants, 10 bars, a bowling alley and pickleball courts — amenities almost no other all-inclusive in Costa Mujeres offers yet.
Upper-floor ocean-view rooms are the first category to sell out.
Check Availability →#2 bets on two different atmospheres under one roof.
With 570 rooms split into two sections, Majestic Elegance solves something almost no other resort on this list does: the Elegance Club, adults-only (18+), with 7 private pools, an exclusive beach area and Bali beds; plus a separate family section for guests traveling with kids. In total it runs 12 pools, 7 restaurants (6 à la carte with unlimited visits) and 13 bars, including 6 swim-up.
Elegance Club rooms are the first category to sell out — they get booked months in advance.
Check Availability →With your own car you explore Costa Mujeres and the surrounding area on your own schedule. Booking ahead locks in the best rate.
And here we are at #1 — the one that combines everything we've covered best.
Catalonia Grand takes the top spot for combining the three things that matter most in Costa Mujeres: it's all-suites (several with a private swim-up pool), it has its own internal "Quinta Avenida" inspired by the real one in Playa del Carmen — restaurants, bars and shops built in — and it runs family-friendly activities without losing its Mexican identity, from Maya-heritage touches to one free scuba lesson included per stay. Its 2 pools (one for quiet relaxation, one built for family fun) and the Alegria Spa with an oceanfront infinity pool round out the most well-balanced package in Costa Mujeres.
Suites with a private swim-up pool are the first category to sell out — they get booked months ahead.
Check Availability →Peak season prices change week to week. Booking in advance can make a difference of hundreds of dollars per person.
